A previously undisclosed financial deal involving nearly $300 million and a company controlled by LeBron James has been revealed.

Date: August 26, 2026

According to records reviewed by Bloomberg, an LLC controlled by James borrowed almost $300 million from two Midwestern life insurers in 2018, months before he signed with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The bonds were reportedly structured to give James immediate access to capital while using future off-court revenue—including income connected to his lifetime Nike sponsorship—as backing.

The bonds are due in 2049. The arrangement should not be confused with James receiving $300 million in untaxed personal income; it was a financing transaction carrying repayment obligations.

A representative for James said the transactions were independently rated, and there is no indication that they are connected to current federal inquiries involving other business entities.
