The Weeknd is pushing back on the idea that his current era will end with a permanent retirement.
Date: September 17, 2026
In a new GQ Hong Kong cover interview, Abel Tesfaye explained that his plan to disappear after the tour means taking time to focus his creative energy rather than leaving music.
He described the break as a period of hibernation after years of albums, videos, television, film and stadium touring.
Tesfaye also said he briefly considered stopping, but the amount of inspiration he currently feels made retirement seem like the wrong decision.
The statement reframes his earlier comments about moving beyond The Weeknd persona as an evolution instead of a final ending.
