Opening statements have begun in the federal murder-for-hire trial of Grammy-winning Chicago rapper Lil Durk.
Date: August 25, 2026
Jury selection started August 20 before opening statements were delivered Monday in a Los Angeles federal courtroom.
Prosecutors allege that Lil Durk, whose legal name is Durk Banks, placed a bounty on Atlanta rapper Quando Rondo and helped set an alleged revenge plot in motion. The August 2022 attack failed to kill Rondo but resulted in the death of his cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson.
Durk’s defense argues that prosecutors have no evidence proving he offered or paid a bounty, ordered the attack or knew it was being planned. His attorneys portrayed the rapper as a high-profile target being presented as the government’s “big fish.”
Durk has pleaded not guilty. If convicted on the most serious federal charges, he could face life in prison.
The trial is ongoing, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
