A player-organized protest called #PSBlackout is urging PlayStation owners to turn off their consoles and stop spending across Sony’s gaming platforms.

The campaign runs from August 23 at 7 p.m. local time through August 30 at 7 p.m. local time. Participants are being asked to avoid PSN logins, play sessions, PlayStation Store purchases and in-game spending.
Game-preservation group Does It Play? helped organize the protest amid concerns about Sony’s reported movement away from physical game releases and the limited ownership rights attached to digital purchases.
Organizers say the coordinated drop in activity is intended to give Sony a measurable demonstration of player dissatisfaction while limiting the effect on independent publishers and developers.
The campaign is a voluntary player boycott—not a PlayStation Network service outage. Sony has not shut down PSN as part of the event.
