KRS-One wants hip-hop to receive permanent physical spaces in cities around the world.

During a recent roundtable featuring Fat Joe, the hip-hop pioneer proposed establishing “Little Hip-Hop” districts similar to neighborhoods such as Chinatown and Little Italy.
KRS-One said the areas could centralize hip-hop culture while creating locations for artists, entrepreneurs and community organizations to establish businesses.
He also believes the districts could attract international tourism and direct investment toward underserved sections of participating cities.
According to KRS-One, Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka has accepted the proposal for Newark, New Jersey.
The city already has a connection to KRS-One’s cultural work through the Temple of Hip-Hop, an organization he founded to preserve and develop the culture beyond commercial music.
